How To Install Adobe Acrobat Reader as a
Netscape Helper Application

The installation process depends on the type of computer that the application
is on (Macintosh or PC). Adobe Acrobat Reader provides installation instructions
on the same Web page from which it can be downloaded:

SETTING UP ACROBAT READER AS A HELPER APPLICATION
(1) After downloading Adobe Acrobat Reader successfully, enter Netscape.
(2) Under the OPTIONS menu at the top of the screen, select PREFERENCES.
(3) To get to the list of helper applications, hold down the
mouse button on the down arrow head to the right of the "Window and Link
Styles" and when the menu pops up, select HELPER APPLICATIONS.
(4) At this point, Netscape needs some information with regards to Acrobat
Reader. To enter the data, single-click in the box to the right of the
desired type of data.
- (a) In the MIME TYPE box, type application.
- (b) In the SUBTYPE box, type pdf.
- (c) In the EXTENSIONS box, type pdf.
- (d) Under ACTION, select the LAUNCH APPLICATION item by single
clicking on circle to the left of the word.
- (e) In order to select Acrobat Reader as the helper application, Netscape
needs to know where to find the Acrobat Reader program. Click on the
BROWSE button and move to the directory which Acrobat Reader
resides. To select it,double-click on Acrobat Reader.
- (f) Once Acrobat Reader has been found, complete the Helper Application
installation by clicking on the OK button.
